We love making marble runs and building with LEGO© in my house, so we combined the two again and made a LEGO© marble maze. This is another easy project to do with young children and basic LEGO©. The best part is that the maze can be changed again and again for hours of fun.

How to Setup the Border

The large 15″x 15″ LEGO© Baseplates tend to be a little flimsy, so we chose to use a smaller baseplate. The smaller baseplate ensured that the baseplate wouldn’t bend while holding it so that the pieces wouldn’t fall off. After we chose our baseplate, we took all the 1×6, 1×5, 1×4, 1×3, and 1×2 red pieces we could find. We used these red LEGO© to outline our board, leaving a space to start and stop the maze.

How to Setup the Marble Maze

Next, we collected all the yellow 1×1, 1×2, 1×3, 1×4, and 1×5 pieces to set up the maze. Playing around with these pieces and the marble, we found that the spacing needed to be two studs apart. We switched from the red plastic marble to a regular marble since it was smaller and easier to use with the desired two-stud spacing. After that, it was fun mapping out a maze path from start to finish and adding wrong turns along the way.

Take your time with young children. My three-year-old struggled to leave a path to the exit on her marble maze. Once she finished designing it (with help), she was thrilled to try to get the marble through her maze.

LEGO© Marble Maze Assembly

Now that the LEGO© marble maze is complete, it is time to play. One way to make it more challenging is to see who can complete the maze the fastest.
