We love building marble runs in our house. We love combining different materials to experiment with different ways of making marble runs. For this marble run, we decided to use LEGO© Duplo and paper towel rolls. The best part of using paper towel rolls is combining two things you already have.
Materials
If you are starting with LEGO© Duplo, I recommend getting the Classic Deluxe Brick Box. I love to recommend this set because not only does it come with 85 bricks, but it also comes with a storage bin that has plenty of room to store another set or two in it as well.
If you are like me and already have a large collection of LEGO© Duplo in your house, get them out.
Also, gather about a half dozen toilet paper or paper towel rolls. I usually keep a bag under my sink to collect the empty rolls, so I have plenty when the kids want to do an activity with them.
Finally, grab a pair of scissors so that you can cut the toilet paper rolls in half.
Setup
Cut the paper rolls in half using scissors. You can skip this step, but I found that having the rolls cut in half made it easier for the marble to transfer from one roll to the next.
Next, use your LEGO© Duplo to make stands to hold the paper rolls in place. The picture below shows some of the stands we used for our marble run.
Trial and error is part of building any marble run. Test your ramps and ensure they align correctly as you build your marble run taller. If you have a LEGO© Duplo compatible block set, feel free to add it to your paper roll marble run to make it even longer.
